WOOLNER, Thomas. Silenus.

London. Macmillan and Co., 1884. First edition.
8vo. [8], 136pp. With half-title. Partially unopened and uncut in original publisher's gilt-decorated green cloth. Lightly rubbed, corners bumped. Browning to endpapers.
The first edition of the second long narrative work by sculptor, poet, and Pre-Raphaelite founder Thomas Woolner (1825 – 1892), concerning the love affair between the titular Silenus and nymph Syrinx. Woolner's three eroticised classical narratives demonstrated a break from Pre-Raphaelitism, abandoning the conventions of his earlier long poem, My Beautiful Lady.
