Uncut in original publisher's gilt-stamped buff paper boards, with a lower yapp edge. Rubbed and marked, with chipping to edges, loss to head and foot of spine, light spotting to boards. Illustrated bookplate of Ann Wilbraham to FEP. Inked gift inscription addressed to 'Aunt Mary from Margaret, Xmas 1884' to FFEP, with accompanying manuscript floral decoration. Occasional light spotting, particularly to edges.
One of 50 large paper copies of the third edition of Scottish artist Eleanor Vere Boyle's (1825 – 1916) Days and Hours in a Garden, one of four garden-books written by the author in the last years of her life. Boyle, who often published work under the pseudonym 'EVB' to obscure her aristocratic background, first came to prominence for her intricate watercolour illustrations, which had strong Pre-Raphaelite influence.
