The first edition of a collection of poetry inspired by Serbian national songs, penned by Edward Robert Bulwer Lytton, first earl of Lytton, under the pseudonym Owen Meredith. Despite gaining a growing literary reputation after his verse novel, Lucile, was published in 1860, the collection received mixed reviews, subject to a scathing attack from Lord Strangford in the Sunday Review.
