MEREDITH, Owen. Serbski pesme; or, National Songs of Serbia..

London. Chapman and Hall, 1861. First edition.
8vo. 142pp, [2]. Original publisher's blind-stamped burgundy cloth, lettered in gilt to spine. A crisp copy, with the slightest of rubbing to extremities.
The first edition of a collection of poetry inspired by Serbian national songs, penned by Edward Robert Bulwer Lytton, first earl of Lytton, under the pseudonym Owen Meredith. Despite gaining a growing literary reputation after his verse novel, Lucile, was published in 1860, the collection received mixed reviews, subject to a scathing attack from Lord Strangford in the Sunday Review.
