A rare survival of the sole edition of an account of the trial of four persons alleged to have robbed the counting house at manufacturer and entrepreneur Matthew Boulton's (1728-1809) Soho Manufactory. The accused were found guilty. The present copy once formed a part of the library of the Birmingham Assay Office, one of the four assay offices in the United Kingdom, founded by Boulton in 1773 and to this day responsible for testing the purity of precious metals and issuing hallmarks of certification.
