MOORE, Thomas. Lalla Rookh, an Oriental Romance.

London. Printed for Longman, Rees, Orme, Brown, and Green, 1828. Fourteenth edition.
12mo. [4], 376pp. With an additional engraved title page and three engraved plates by E. J. Portbury (1795-1885) after designs by Westall. Handsomely bound in contemporary straight-grain black morocco, tooled in gilt and blind, marbled edges. Very slight rubbing and bumping to extremities. Marbled endpapers, recent bookplate of Robert J. Hayhurst to FEP, contemporary inked ownership inscription to head of title page, occasional light spotting and browning.
The epitome of romantic orientalism, Lalla Rookh comprises four narrative poems of exotic sensuality. First printed in 1817, the immense popularity of the work established author Thomas Moore (1779-1852) as Ireland's preeminent poet. The resulting plethora of editions prompted publisher Thomas Longman to dub the work the 'cream of the copyrights'.
